pbxnsip have the 'Know How'; that's why we have announced our ability to extend our development capabilities by supporting MAC operating system with particular attention to the Mac mini.
The pbxnsip MAC software fills a void for Mac-centric businesses that are usually forced to run their VoIP based phone systems on either Windows or Linux platforms. Apple customers can now run their company phone systems on native Mac OS X platforms, including Mac Pro, Mac mini, and iMac. We have created a purpose built version of our SIP based software for the Apple community.

Easy 'Know How'

Questions you are too afraid to ask!
Learn some Easy 'Know How'

What is a trunk?
A trunk is a way to get external calls in and out of the PBX. All extensions and accounts are internal, at some point someone will want to talk to other telephone users outside the PBX. This is done by using a trunk from the PBX to the telephone network.

What is the PSTN?
The PSTN is the Public Switch Telephone Network, a term for the telephone network as we have used for many years.

What is a Media Gateway?
A media gateway is a device that sits between the PBX and the PSTN network. pbxnsip communicates with the media gateway using a Trunk.

What is NAT?
Network Address translation (NAT) is the translation of an Internet Protocol address (IP address) between networks. One network is designated the inside network and the other is the outside. Typically, a company maps its local inside network address to a global outside (public) IP addresses. NAT unmaps the global IP addresses on incoming packets back into local IP addresses. This helps ensure security. It can also cause severe headaches without a NAT filter or session border controller.
Technical 'Know How'

Some technical questions

SIP Trunk - 'Know How' -
Most start-up technical support questions are based around the ability to correctly set-up and configure a SIP trunk to a provider. In most cases it is due to the missing field called Outbound Proxy. If your provider has not stipulated the required Outbound Proxy setting, please enter the registrar or domain information.

Dial 9 first - 'Know How' -
If you want to dial 9 before your call, add this to the dial plan 9*, this will capture any number beginning with 9, strip the nine and pass the remaining numbers to the trunk.

CSV Import - 'Know How' -
To create the extensions, you can now use the CSV (comma separated values) format. This is very useful for the bulk account creation.
The format is:
type;alias;ani;password;web_password; first_name;display_name;mb_pin;email_address;mac

Call Back - 'Know How' -
The Call Back feature of the pbxnsip can be done by configuring a Calling Card account. Create a calling card account and flag it as Call Back. The PBX will carry out a 2 stage Call Back mode. Firstly the PBX will answer the phone and request authentication and your phone number and then the pbx will call you back and ask you for your final destination number. Leave the rest to pbxnsip. pbxnsip Call Back will save you money.

Who is using pbxnsip with Microsoft Exchange?

Just to follow up on last month's announcement on Microsoft Exchange Certification -

Onesys (PTY) Ltd, Microsoft EA has taken advantage of the pbxnsip and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Certification.

Johann Rabe, Network Architect at Onesys stated "We are extremely pleased with the pbxnsip IP PBX deployment, we have successfully implemented the Microsoft Exchange integration with pbxnsip for our own business and are most impressed with the advanced features and benefits of the two working together. pbxnsip have many great features but so do other PBX solutions out there. So what's the difference? From the start, it gives that sense of "easy-does-it ". In the revolutionized era of Unified Messaging and Enterprise Voice Solutions, this is one component you should not overlook. It's not about interoperability, but rather Integration."
