Learn some Easy 'Know How'
What is a Media Gateway?
A media gateway is a device that sits between the PBX and the PSTN network. pbxnsip communicates with the media gateway using a SIP Trunk. Such devices include Vegastream, Sangoma, Audio Codes and Quintum.
What is NAT?
Network Address translation (NAT) is the translation of an Internet Protocol address (IP address) between networks. One network is designated the inside network and the other is the outside. Typically, a company maps its local inside network address to a global outside (public) IP addresses. NAT unmaps the global IP addresses on incoming packets back into local IP addresses. This helps ensure security. It can also cause severe headaches without a NAT filter or session border controller.
What is the PSTN?
The PSTN is the Public Switch Telephone Network, a term for the telephone network as we have used for many years.
What is TLS?
Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a protocol that is used for establishing a secure connection between a client and a server. In this case the client is your phone and the server is the PBX.

User Interface 'Know How'
Some questions about User functionality
What is the user interface? - 'Know How' -
There are three levels of web interface on pbxnsip - System, Domain and User.
The User interface is accessible to the user using the web login to the pbx. Uses are identified by their login name (which is simply extension@domain) along with the web password.
When a user connects to the User web interface, they have access to change various settings on the PBX with regards to their own extension only. You can view and listen to voicemail, user call recordings, view CDRs and change settings on your extension.
User Call Recording - 'Know How' -
V3 keys are now set to allow User Call Recording.
User call recording, is 'call recording' which is started and stopped by the user, whereas System call recording is automated and controlled by the domain administrator who configures when calls should be automatically recorded.
User call recording is started by pressing the 'Record' button on a Snom phone or by dialling a * feature code to switch on or off the call recording. User call recorded messages are accessible via the mailbox functionality or by accessing the web interface at user level
User Scheduled Conferences - 'Know How' -
If the domain administrator has created a scheduled conference room, users may create a scheduled conference from the user web interface.
By creating a scheduled conference the PBX will send an email with an 'Calendar' entry for your Outlook or other email clients. Information will include a unique entry PIN, telephone number to call, date, start and end time.
A copy of the calendar record is available for download and can also be manually attached to an email and sent to recipients.
