Leeds 15th May 2008 - pbxnsip Europe Ltd, a leader in SIP-based IP PBX software for both Microsoft Windows and Linux environments, today announced the company has officially demonstrated interoperability with Microsoft Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging and is now listed on the 'Exchange Server Tech Center' section of the Microsoft TechNet web site. Microsoft has a very detailed test plan that IP PBX vendors need to follow and successfully pass in order to be considered interoperable with Exchange 2007 UM. The ability of a PBX to have a direct SIP connection to Exchange UM allows for many features that need to be tested. Some of those tests include:
- Direct voicemail storage within a user's Exchange mailbox instead of natively in the PBX
- Navigating the mailbox using the Voice User Interface (VUI)
- Listening to voicemail using OWA's Play-On-Phone feature to a user's extension
- Listening to voicemail using OWA's Play-On-Phone feature to an external phone
- Sending a FAX message to user's extension and storing it in the user Inbox
"Microsoft Exchange is the standard for business grade mail and messaging in today's corporation", said Paul McCabe, VP of Sales Engineering at pbxnsip, Inc. We went through a very detailed process in order to interoperate with Exchange 2007 UM. We join a small list of PBX vendors like Cisco, Avaya, Mitel, and Nortel that have demonstrated SIP compatibility with Microsoft. With our strong background in SIP and our ability to use TCP for trunking with Exchange, pbxnsip has joined these very large companies in offering a Microsoft compatible PBX product."
The prerequisites and configuration notes for setting up pbxnsip with Exchange UM can be found on the "PBX Configuration Notes Tested by Microsoft or IP Gateway Vendor Partners" page.
